About

  • What is this? - this was a project dedicated to building an up-to-date collection of great, free portable software for easy installation and use.
  • What's in it? - list of included freeware
Releases
  • v. 1.3 beta - note that this release is over a year old and contains very out-of-date software. I haven't worked out how to solve licensing issues. Download

International status

As of this writing, some cool things have happened:
  • Over 1,200 people have downloaded the program in the last 8 hours.
  • 121 people are "seeding," or helping distribute this software.
  • Most impressive to me is that people all over the world now are using this software.
One piece of bad news: one user on Mininova's forums complained of problems on Vista 64.  I am unable to test this OS but none of my users have had any issues with previous versions and the software hasn't changed enough to create problems.

All told this has been a great weekend for me and portable freeware.  I'm ecstatic.

Hey, still haven't tested! I download via the HTTP link twice but the file was corrupted on both occasions. Something didn't look right as the icon was showing a default window (like those programs that don't use an icon.) I exeuted the program and nothing! This was done on the 19th and 20th respectively. So am downloading via Torrent :) hope this works. I will also try to reproduce an XML file for PStart to see if the problem is repliated. I will take into consideration any parameters or icons you have used in your config. -g

OK so I managed to extract but it didn't open a GUI when I double clicked, it was the same as with the HTTP download version. Seems there might have been an error when the SFX was created.

YES YES YES I know why when you double click on a group they all execute..because you have version 2.10 and not version 2.11 the differene ...
* Running group items not possible by accident any more
* Windows 98 bug fixed
* Copy & paste bug fixed

So update PSTART :)

Changes that I would make to Kitchen Sink Portable Freeware::
1. Look at replacing PortableApps.com with WinPenPack.com wrappers, one good example is Audacity that is currently in beta stage is more stable than the stable release - http://www.winpenpack.com/main/download.php?view.37
2. Change AutoBackup 2.20 to version 3
3. BluetoothView (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/bluetooth_viewer.html) include OUI.txt (http://standards.ieee.org/regauth/oui/oui.txt) which is able to determine the company name of the Bluetooth device.
4. C.A.F.E. to Coffee suprised you haven't done it :P
5. CCleaner include winapp2 (http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=1110) in the directory.
6. Floola include ffmpeg.exe in the directory, will allow users to convert files to MP3.
7. Have a look at X-WinHTTrack (http://www.winpenpack.com/main/download.php?view.56) its a wrapper for httrack.
8. PeerGuardian2 change the default lists to the more popular TBG Blocklist (http://tbg.iblocklist.com/Lists/)
9. Update PStart to version 2.11.
10. USBDeview add usb.ids (http://www.linux-usb.org/usb.ids) to the directory, this will show the company name of the USB drive.
11. µTorrent add the IPFilter from (http://tbg.iblocklist.com/Lists/) in the directory to block unwanted IP Addresses.
12. Look at migrating from JKDefrag to MyDefrag, there is a good GUI already and the script langauge is easy to customise.
13. Change EraserPortable to Eraser 5.8.70 (http://bbs.heidi.ie/viewforum.php?f=14&sid=871d424a7469d00491fab9c25a413aa9) as its now natively portable.
14. Delete .CHM files from NirSoft programs and keep the ReadMe files.
15. Look at Ultr@VNC instead of TightVNC, found a great viewer (http://portableapps.com/node/2031) which as been modified to be portable and in the PAF format.
16. With the Firefox Secure version i believe you are intending to maintain a secure environment, locate the file application.ini [FirefoxPortable-Secure\App\firefox\application.ini] open this file and at the bottom replace:
[Crash Reporter]
Enabled=1
ServerURL=https://crash-reports.mozilla.com/submit

with

[Crash Reporter]
Enabled=0
ServerURL=https://crash-reports.mozilla.com/dontsubmit
MOZ_CRASHREPORTER_DISABLE=1

This will stop sending any Crash reports to Mozilla and creating a report in the %APPDATA%\Mozilla which isn't removed in the PortableApps.com wrapper. This is why PortableFreeware class Firefox as not secure.
17. Change the batch file configuration to perhaps AutoIT or NSIS for starting Kitchen Sink Portable Freeware. It will then allow you to customise, with perhaps adding (if PStart is running on a USB, when PStart closes, execute EjectUSB to ensure complete dismount. Otherwise if running on local system don't bother.) - I can help here!
18. Consider looking at my app, this will allow the user to keep up to date with the databases specified above as well as IPToCountry.csv which changes every 24 hours.

Hope this helps for now, I have more suggestions but I think these will keep you busy.

Oh no! Haha!

Wow, of the 100s of programs I've updated over the last 6 months, you'd think I'd be watching the one that ties them altogether!

Thanks so much -- whew!

I'm having the same error. I'll post a 1.11 version tonight.
